Filigranes Éditions

Paris, France · since 1988

Filigranes was created in 1988 by Patrick Le Bescont, and it has never settled on a house style: its stated aim is a harmony between image and writing, with every book conceived as a work in itself rather than a reproduction of one. The method is partnership. About half of the books in the archive are co-published with someone else: festivals such as Planches Contact in Deauville and Portraits Vichy, the École nationale supérieure de la photographie in Arles, the Jeu de Paume, the Conservatoire du littoral, and series like Carte Blanche PMU. That is why the list reads like a map of French photographic institutions, and why it gives a first book to young photographers as readily as it republishes an established name.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
