Loose Joints

Marseille, France · since 2014

Loose Joints is an independent publishing house founded in 2014 by Sarah Chaplin Espenon and Lewis Chaplin, and it describes its work as contemporary approaches to photography in book form, with the stated aim of elevating underrepresented voices and introducing new visual perspectives. Design, editing and production are all done in-house, in close collaboration with the artist from start to finish. The house lives between Marseille and London and extends the books into other spaces: Loose Joints Studio, an independent design studio, and Ensemble, a bookshop, gallery and atelier in Marseille that hosts exhibitions, launches and events. Signed, bundled and special editions are part of the catalogue, not an afterthought.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
