J&L

Atlanta, United States · since 2000

J&L Books was founded in 2000 by Jason Fulford and Leanne Shapton and describes itself as a non-profit publisher of artists' books, based in Atlanta and New York, producing new books by or about contemporary artists. Its books are often edited by Fulford himself, and Shapton co-edited some of them with him. Some titles are made with a distributor such as D.A.P., while others are small, odd and quick, such as collections of defaced record covers and paper placemats.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
