Isola Press

United Kingdom

Isola Press is a small independent publisher of photobooks about the outdoors and cycling, whose tagline on some pages is adventures in outdoor books and on others adventures in photobooks. Its titles include the Rio Tape/Slide Archive, 1980s community photography from Hackney rediscovered in a battered filing cabinet in a cinema basement in 2016, the Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive of vintage photographs, hand-drawn maps and ephemera from 1955 to the 1990s, a book of poems and photographs made in Hackney in the 1980s, and a book on the cyclist Jobst Brandt that uses unseen photographs and original documents. It also sells prints and cards.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
