Studio Vortex

France

Studio Vortex is a French publisher that works closely with the photographer Antoine d'Agata, and its list is made largely of his books: Virus, a 2020 book of 832 pages made during the Covid-19 pandemic in separate French and English editions, Praxis, a Mexico-focused work with texts by Yannick Haenel, and Méthode, a three-volume collector's edition of 960 pages that retraces the history of violence through unpublished photographs and archival material. The publisher's link with d'Agata goes back at least to 2003, when an exhibition in Paris came with two books, Vortex and Insomnia.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
