Ice Plant

Los Angeles, United States · since 2006

The Ice Plant is a Los Angeles press founded in 2006 by Tricia Gabriel, a former book buyer at SFMOMA, with Mike Slack, who had worked at Book Soup in West Hollywood, joining soon after. Its first projects were printed in Seoul, and its early commercial titles included a book by Jason Fulford, Raising Frogs for $$$, and a second printing of Slack's own OK OK OK. By its tenth anniversary in 2016 it had published illustrated and photography books for about a decade, and it was among the publishers exhibiting at the ICP Photobook Fest in 2023.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
