Zatara

Richmond, United States · since 2014

Zatara Press is a small independent photobook publisher in Richmond, Virginia, created in 2014 by Andrew Fedynak. It treats the photobook as an object: its general design principles draw on the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, and it generally does not reprint books that sell out, so several earlier editions are listed as sold out. Libraries and museums are asked to contact the press directly for wholesale orders.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
