Imageless

Shanghai, China

Imageless describes itself as an award-winning independent photobook publisher based in Shanghai, publishing limited-edition photobooks that showcase unique voices and nuanced human experiences in East Asia and its diasporas. Its list includes found-photograph books such as a 500-page volume on modern China, in an edition of 700, and an artist's book that is also a product catalogue made with the artist Zhang Xiao. The Imageless Dummy Photobook Awards, an annual competition open to photographers of Chinese ethnicity or heritage or to work about China and its diasporas, offer the winner a cash prize and a book published by the house.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
