Eriskay Connection

Breda, Netherlands

The Eriskay Connection calls itself a Dutch studio for book design and an independent publisher, and the order matters: it is a design studio first, so its publishers, Rob van Hoesel and Carel Fransen, are usually involved in the making of the books they publish. The programme is contemporary storytelling at the intersection of photography, research and writing, with each book treated as an autonomous body of work developed closely with its author. Editions are mainly offset printed and bound in the Netherlands, preferably by local producers and with sustainable materials. Proposals are open, read about once a month, and the studio will publish books designed by others if they fit the programme.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
