Avarie

Paris, France · since 2012

AVARIE is an independent publisher based between Paris and Berlin, founded in 2012 by the independent curator, researcher, writer and editor Giuliana Prucca, who is also its art director, and it specialises in contemporary art and photo books, exploring the relationship between texts and images, space and body. Its numbered KAMERA Cahiers are special-edition issues curated, designed and published by AVARIE, Paris, and Labor Neunzehn, a Berlin project space, and the house also publishes books with other presses, among them Light Cone, the Paris film distributor.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
