A special edition issue curated, designed and published by AVARIE, Paris, and Labor Neunzehn, Berlin. It accompanies the KAMERA programme while remaining an independent object to collect. The central idea that directs the montage of these small volumes is the interplay between addition and subtraction: a missing image from the projection, or an unreleased second taken from an artist's work, expanded over twenty-four pages, with a piece removed directly from the show enclosed in every copy. The editing sets up a dialogue between frames and performed writings drawn from texts, scripts, storyboards and notes, so that the exhibition is extended into a physical space.

KAMERA is a programme of experimental moving images and printed matter held in a former GDR building in Berlin. Each event shows a retrospective of one artist over four days, alongside a small display of their publications or works on paper, and sets out to foster a critical dialogue between different formats.

Originally from the former Yugoslavia, Sergej Vutuc has been part of the punk and skateboarding community since the mid nineties, driven by a do-it-yourself ethic and by alternative cultures. His work begins by documenting the overdevelopment of modern society and the privatisation of public space, and leads into an exploration of the image, of motion and sound, and of human happenings such as performances, events and productions. The machine is a tool rather than a technique: copiers become musical instruments, noise emerges as a publication or meets the visual in Super 8 and 16 mm.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
