Éditions Bessard

Paris, France · since 2011

Éditions Bessard is a Paris publisher founded in 2011 by Pierre Bessard, a former photojournalist and photo editor who designs each book himself, from cover to page edge, because he wants photography books to be artists' books and aims at what the house calls the classics of tomorrow. It describes itself as an independent publisher of fine art books in photography, architecture and cuisine, working with artists, writers and curators on “intellectually challenging projects in book form”. Beside the regular books there are bespoke commissions, a Zine Collection of numbered issues and a gallery section called L'Impériale, so a Bessard title can be a limited edition, a commission or a fanzine.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
