I began working on the Self Portraits series in 2010. While photographing during the summer in Italy, searching for animals in the countryside, I looked through my viewfinder and saw the projection of my shadow on a dirt path along the mountain. It was a beautiful day, and I was quite close to where I was born. From that moment I decided to build a project around myself: no more animals or strangers to follow — everything I needed was now in front of me, calm and still, waiting for me simply to press the button.
