Chanel Victor is a painter and photographer based in Paris, born and raised on the French island of Martinique, though her roots are in Dominica. Her photographic work seeks to capture the essence of fragility. Whether using Polaroids, analogue cameras or her iPhone, she explores themes such as nudity, intimacy and sexuality — but above all, trust. “Like many others, I discovered Nan Goldin. It was a revelation and the catalyst for my work. Photographing her friends so boldly and rawly immediately resonated with me. I bought my first camera and began photographing my friends and lovers in moments of pure intimacy. I wanted them exposed. I wanted to capture their bodies and, in a way, their souls.”

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
