Artist Jeff Barnett-Winsby had been photographing in Lansing Prison for a year, when he found out that an inmate, John Maynard, had escaped with the help of a social worker, Toby Young. Maynard and Young, under the aliases Mark West and Molly Rose, were captured two weeks later in Tennessee. This book is a collection of Barnett-Winsby’s photographs and correspondence with the two lovers, both before and after the escape.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
