The 27 images in this book are the last photographs Yoshiichi Hara took before his death on 16 December 2019. He began that year travelling around Japan to photograph Shinto rituals and festivals, his mind occupied by the idea of a sound of the breath of god; he had long drawn inspiration from the Bible and was fascinated by the verse in Genesis in which God breathes the breath of life into man. Until May 2019 he shot forty rolls, trying to visualise that breath of life with every press of the shutter. Shortly after his return to Tokyo he was rushed to hospital and learned that he had only weeks left. He had the rolls developed, kept 27 prints and viewed them again and again, listening for the sound; the title is a term Hara coined for it. The book is made of these 27 prints and was published posthumously. The afterword is in Japanese and English.
