Miyako Ishiuchi herself becomes the subject of her photography. In the three years between suddenly deciding to move out of the house where she had lived for 43 years and actually moving, she made landscapes, street snaps, detail shots and still lifes around her house and neighbourhood that all, directly as a mirror image or indirectly, feature her in some way. She documents the end of another chapter of her life with attention and sentimentality but also decidedly positively. Ishiuchi had always believed that every photograph is a reflection of its maker, whatever its subject, and had intentionally never photographed herself; here she writes that there are many reasons to move, and that in her case one morning she was suddenly overwhelmed by an eerily compelling sensation that she should not be there anymore. All texts are in Japanese and English.
