Shoichi Ito lives in Yonago, in Tottori Prefecture, and found his own value in this land of wide waterfronts: the varied seascapes and mountains pleased his eye, kept the photographer in place and bore fruit in a single book. The title refers to resident birds, those that make their home in one place regardless of the season. In the afterword Ito writes that he sometimes finds birds perched on wave-breaking blocks or driftwood, crows, kites and black-tailed gulls, and suddenly wondered whether they, too, might not have stayed in this place from the beginning.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
