Yukio Sakaue's quiet portrait of her hometown in rural Japan: a farming town in Gunma Prefecture, between the Tone and Yata rivers, that sits at the beak of the crane-shaped outline of the prefecture in a local card-game rhyme. Born and raised there, she lives among landscapes that have long been familiar and that do not greet her with excessive favour, yet are still there today as they were yesterday. The picturesque, almost French-landscape-painting-like photographs invite the reader to wander through the calm elegance of the town and to look at their own surroundings anew, finding previously unnoticed beauty. In the afterword Sakaue hopes to keep looking closely at today's scenery and dreaming of tomorrow's, her only wish being for time to move forward slowly. The afterword is in Japanese and English.
