The third entry in Shoshi Okamoto's ongoing series of photographs taken in the streets of Tokyo, following Tokyo Summer 2020 and Tokyo 1985. Okamoto, who learned photography under the master photographers Daido Moriyama and Masahisa Fukase, captured the new everyday scenery of a Tokyo adapted to the new normal dictated by the Covid pandemic. Shot in black and white with wide angles, the photographs show streets sparsely populated, as if at random, by a scattered few masked pedestrians: a city on hold, slowed down but anxious to spring back to normal.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
