A series of photographs taken in 2022 during photo walks throughout Tokyo. The format follows Shoshi Okamoto's previous books Tokyo 1985, Tokyo Summer 2020 and Everyday Tokyo 2021, as the photographer, a disciple of Daido Moriyama and Masahisa Fukase who rekindled an interest in taking and sharing his images, renders in black and white a portrait of life in the city with wit and endless interest. His images place people amid overwhelming urban architecture, turn them into main characters or indulge in the little humorous moments that only become visible in photography. The afterword, in Japanese and English, wishes the reader good health and happiness.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
