Nam Tchun-Mo (*1961) represents a contemporary continuation of the Dansaekhwa movement, a South Korean art movement that already in the 1960s worked radically abstract, largely monochrome and increasingly three-dimensional. Through repetitive actions in a meditative painting practice, he creates a contemporary interpretation of “golbeop”, a classical principle of East Asian painting that emphasises the structural vitality and life-force of the brushstroke. He organically connects tradition and modernity.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
