The book Edge of the Village / Grenzland documents a vanishing generation and their lived experiences during one of the most significant geopolitical divisions of the 20th century. It shows photographs by Dana Mueller Robinson, who grew up in a small village in Thuringia near the border with Bavaria. From 2010 onwards, Mueller Robinson, who now lives and works in Boston, returned to her home village to photograph, research, interview family members and collect historical documents. The narratives emerging from her family's personal archives reflect the generational experiences of life at the inner-border.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
