The autobahn: an asphalt carpet that lays itself over more than 13,000 km of Germany, intervenes in the landscape and at the same time networks the country. Jörg Brüggemann photographed it from 2014 to 2019, for five years. Currently the prevailing mobility concepts are in constant change and discussion, while the autobahn in its basic form has remained largely unchanged for decades. For how much longer? Brüggemann's pictures could soon be read as historical. It is probably the most monumental structure of the Germans and part of our cultural identity and history.
