Unter Wasser is at once a radical break and a consistent continuation of Hans-Christian Schink's previous work. Known for his perfectly balanced, large-format images, in this project he effects a change in his photographic method and lets controlled chance run free. The setting is biotopes in Germany's most water-rich federal state, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: lakes, ditches and so-called kettle holes. These waters arose mostly through the retreat of the ice sheet at the end of the last ice age.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
