Time is equal to all, but sometimes becomes short or long, weathers and can be unjust. Akio Ota's photographs, made on the island of Oshima, make the viewer think about time and the way people live: the country's past response to leprosy, the ageing of the islanders and the fading of awareness. Time seems cruelly set to wash away even the living proof of the people who were forced to live there.
