Lhasa is the holy city of Tibetan Buddhism, a place of longing that every Tibetan hopes to visit on pilgrimage at least once in a lifetime. In the afterword Akiko Sudo writes that from 2009 to 2010, and again from 2015 to 2016, after visiting the regions of Kham and Amdo, she found herself heading to Lhasa again, and yet again.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
