Lake Shinji spans the cities of Matsue and Izumo in Shimane Prefecture. A familiar place for Akihiko Nariai, it is also where the photographer seems to have sharpened an eye. Looking into these serene images, one seems to hear not only the visible landscape but also a sound that quietly trembles the eardrum: even sound is sealed into the pictures, and a landscape perceived with all five senses is turned into photographs. The book marks a new stage for Nariai, the world captured by the tenacious eye of a seasoned photographer.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
