After two self-published books in 2012 and 2013, the third book in Masako Kakizaki's Aononymous series. Kakizaki photographs the landscapes and nature of Aomori Prefecture, the artist's home, yet few personal feelings make it into the photographs despite a lifetime of attachment to the area. The artist reduces their own presence to a transparent layer, enters the nature of Aomori and lets themselves be absorbed, and the resulting photographs capture the places visited from the level of a cell. In strange, unexpected ways the book reminds us humans of our part in nature.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
