In 2018, fourteen years after her first works in the a priori series, a personal event led Yoko Mazuki to think again about the human body, its signals, its language, its limits and its connections. The images blend photographic expression, dance, gesture, truth, nature and artifice, and seem to rise out of darkness to explore as much as to express. In the afterword Mazuki writes of communicating a language that does not require words, from body to body and from skin to skin, and of what is revealed beyond what the eye sees: invisible, inaudible, but certainly felt, communicated by a language more direct than words.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
