Cozy Wakita presents a book of street photographs and everyday snapshots. Printed in black and white, the photographs seem to have been taken as a natural extension of the act of looking, as if captured directly through the eyes with no camera involved. Moments of seemingly no great significance, caught at festivals, in parks or on the streets, are interspersed with strange, almost surreal and humorous snapshots. In the afterword Wakita lists small gestures, looking up at the sky when the rain stops, gazing absently into blooming flowers, turning around for someone charming, and calls the pictures short poems sparked by a small light, a flash; this glaring and absurd reality will go on fascinating him for some more time.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
