This book is a travel narrative of a different kind. The viewer travels through time while reading, yet remains in the same place, the village of Berka in Thuringia. The village was accompanied photographically by three photographers of one family over 70 years, between 1950 and 2022. It is an unusual project, owed to several coincidences, that tells much about this country, the village, its people and how things have developed.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
