With his participation in documenta 14, Ulrich Wüst became internationally known in 2017 as an important documentary-artistic photographer. Since the 1970s he has documented the condition and development of East German cities. With his black-and-white images, which hold with wonderful precision the fragile balance between supposed objectivity and subjective irony, he commented on the change of the cities and the loss of a socialist urban fabric.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
