The Sibylle was THE magazine for fashion and culture of the GDR, published first by the Modeinstitut Berlin, later by the Verlag für die Frau. Also dubbed the East Vogue for its editorial quality, it appeared six times a year, in a planned-economy-regulated print run of 200,000 copies, and was regularly quickly sold out due to great demand. Its makers were primarily fashion designers, photographers and journalists who created a singular visual culture.
