Eight years after their now-legendary publication Poppy – Trails of Afghan Heroin, Robert Knoth and Antoinette de Jong completed their next long-term project Tree and Soil. After the nuclear catastrophe of 2011 they photographed and filmed, over a period of five years, the changing landscapes in the exclusion zones around Fukushima. They documented abandoned farms, gardens, agricultural fields and the surrounding hills and forests, interweaving them with the natural-history collection of Philipp Franz von Siebold.
