Five years ago Peter Bialobrzeski began work on his second Heimat project (after Heimat, 2005) and travelled, with the navigation setting “avoid motorways”, through a country we regard as home. Many stages through small, medium and large towns, into suburbs and centres, are linked to the question of where and how we live in this country and how we experience it, the real Heimat of the great majority of its citizens. His magnificently seen and composed images show the everyday face of the nation.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
