Twelve Waves: the simple title hints at the number, but not the kind of waves that Jörg Gläscher presents with this book. Physically, a wave is a spatially propagating periodic oscillation, or a disturbance of equilibrium. Gläscher's “waves” are the opposite of this definition. They are “standing” waves created from broken and found wood, sculptures built in the forest. These wooden waves are expression and result of the long phases of unaccustomed imposed silence, of reflection, of doubt and of uncertainty.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
