East Berlin in the eighties. Following the French film director Robert Bresson's dictum “Make visible what, without you, might never have been perceived”, the Berlin photographer Günter Steffen photographed between 1984 and 1989 an impressive cycle on East Berlin's centre, where he then lived and worked. Mostly in the early morning hours he roamed seemingly untouched and empty streets, squares, backyards, ruins and along the monstrous Berlin Wall. He captured the ghostly atmosphere of the scenery with his 35mm camera.
