In 2018 the Italian photographer Francesco Neri won the first prestigious August Sander Prize for portrait photography of the Photographische Sammlung / SK Stiftung Kultur, Cologne. His portrait studies of the farming people of his northern Italian homeland, made analogue as contact prints from his 8x10 inch large-format negatives, can be printed full-format in this book. Neri, who studied under Guido Guidi and stands in the tradition of the early Italian colour photographers, carefully composes his portraits of men, women and children of the families of the land.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
