Is Heimat an emotion or a place? Is it where we grew up or where we currently live? Does it perhaps not (any longer) exist at all? Is it a desirable utopia or a trigger word? Is it an inescapable fate or something one creates oneself? Is there only one Heimat, or also in the plural? These are the questions with which the photography-and-literature project Experiment HEIMAT, curated by the photographer Peter Bialobrzeski and the Westphalian Literature Bureau, engages. The book holds the visual and literary results of the project.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
