This book examines how German as well as international photographers saw the city between the immediate post-war period and the end of the 20th century. The art historian and curator Candice M. Hamelin selected exemplary works by over twenty photographers. The exhibition catalogue, accompanying a large exhibition at the Reinbeckhallen, begins with black-and-white shots of the city lying in ruins and ends with pictures of urban-planning projects of the post-reunification era, often in colour and made over several years.
