At the focus of Beatrice Minda's photographic work is the private interior in the context of historical events. In far-eastern Myanmar, sealed off for decades by a rigid military dictatorship, she photographed the oldest still-inhabited houses, dating from colonial-influenced lifeworlds at the start of the 20th century. She traced the living traces of the inhabitants and the signs of change. The book reflects the ambivalent aspects of the British colonial era and its consequences. In the course of colonisation many settlers, traders, hired labourers and adventurers came from the vast British empire.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
