Anne Collier (*1970 Los Angeles) lives and works in New York. In her artistic work she engages with found photographs, reworking them to arrive at a reflected history of the medium. She is especially interested in images with a highly emotional visual language: eyes, clouds, waves, as well as pictures of blunt and romanticised sexism. By re-photographing posters, record covers, photo magazines, book pages and film stills, she questions the meaning of images that shape our everyday life and illustrate longings. Making image-making itself her subject, she creates distance from the motif, filters emotions and provides an occasion to reflect on what is depicted.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
