White, nothing but white, is the colour of winter. When the Canadian photographer Angela Boehm grew up in rural Saskatchewan, long cold winters were a fixed and lasting part of her youth. The experience of deep winter, of stillness and heaviness, of solitude in nature, left lasting deep memories. In 2021 she began to photograph snowstorms in Saskatchewan, setting herself the self-chosen rule of working only at minus 30 degrees Celsius or colder. With these images she preserves her experiences of these winters, a season that seems slowly to be changing. In 2023 the minus-30 environment she sought to preserve did not reappear.
