Published within the After Nature – Ulrike Crespo Photography Prize, a joint project of the C/O Berlin Foundation and the Crespo Foundation honouring artists who respond in photography and visual media to the changed ecologies of the present. Isadora Romero examines, through two cloud forests in Ecuador, the coexistence of humans and woodland in past, present and future. Through collaboration with scientists and local communities, a nuanced narrative emerges about the spiritual, political and ecological dimensions of the forest, shaped as much by indigenous knowledge as by old and new technologies.
