The source material for this photobook is a compendium of roses published in Poland in 1967, "A guidebook for those who fancy roses", with 150 colour photographs of different varieties. Wysocka rescanned the images and transformed them into something almost entirely different. The trigger was the failed offset printing of the originals, with its shifts of colour and distortions, and she pushes the printing mistakes further by reproducing the images in four-colour CMYK separation on a Risograph. Mis-registrations and roller marks turn petals into abstract colour studies and printer-pointillist textures, where the recognisable drifts away and the obviousness of the subject is systematically destroyed.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
