Takami Takeda makes a statement on the beauty of chaos, the unorderly energy to which he is drawn. In the afterword, Enthralled by the Breath of Chaos, he says he prefers cities that are somewhat cluttered, disorderly and bustling with vitality because they feel more human, and that he pointed his camera at the sense of chaos he is subconsciously curious about or attracted to. The photobook celebrates not clutter, mess, destitution or poverty but raw, uncontained energy. In beautifully coloured photographs the city appears as a place that cannot hide its strata, bursting from the multitude of socially, personally and economically different layers occurring at once in the same physical space.
