"Delimit a territory to explore: the commune, for example. The country (an intimate distance with landscapes). Take the IGN map and its little symbols. Little green dots? Orchards. Orchards? The trees now bear only brambles and shelter a few rabbit warrens. There, I park. And I take a turn, at random, according to the possibilities: the breaches, the little passages, the open gates. Or along the Canal des Alpines, a wooded gash conducive to immersion (I stray a little, at times). Follow the horses' tracks: they make today's paths, the paths of boredom." This notebook retraces a residency in the territory of the Bouches-du-Rhône département. Cahier is a collection of working notebooks published in facsimile, directed by à suivre in Marseille. Each book offers the reader the chance to enter the intimacy of photographers' creative process: sketches, drafts and notes constitute, before the finished work, an autonomous aesthetic body all the more vital for still being in gestation.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
