In the early hours of 18 May 1980, on the eve of a first tour of America, Ian Curtis, singer and lyricist of the post-punk band Joy Division, hanged himself in the kitchen of his house. At the time of his death his mental health was failing as a result of epilepsy and of the attempt to balance his musical ambitions with his marriage; his wife Deborah found his body the next morning. This small volume gathers video stills from teenagers' covers of the famous song Love Will Tear Us Apart together with comments on that song left in online forums.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
