Italian
With 138 etchings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi
From the library collection of Luigi Nocivelli
Two architects, one Venetian and one Milanese, look at the ancient fabric of the city of the Caesars and the popes two centuries apart, between astonishment and wonder.
Piranesi made a hundred and thirty-eight etchings to satisfy the demand for views among Grand Tour travellers. Basilico, who died in 2013, carried out several campaigns that speak ideally with the great eighteenth-century engraver. From the Capitol to Piazza Navona, by way of the Imperial Forums and Saint Peter's, his frames reproduce the refined Roman views of Giovanni Battista Piranesi held in the library collection of the entrepreneur Luigi Nocivelli.
